X-ray images are among the most valuable tools a dentist has for evaluating the mouth and teeth.  By observing changes from what is normal on an X-ray film, dentists can diagnose problems in the teeth and jaws.

Dental X-rays are primarily used to:

  • Show areas of decay that is not visible to the naked eye, such as tiny cavities that might occur between teeth
  • Find decay that is forming underneath an existing filling
  • Find damage in an existing filling
  • Show patterns of possible bone loss associated with periodontal (gum) disease
  • Reveal problems in the root canal, such as infection or nerve damage
  • Reveal other abnormalities such as abscesses, cysts, cancers and changes associated with metabolic and systemic diseases
  •  Help your dentist to plan, prepare and place tooth implants, crown & bridgework, orthodontic treatments, dentures or other dental work
  • For children, radiographs are used to monitor tooth growth and development.  Often, major problems can be prevented by catching small developmental problems early and then making accommodations, and planning future treatments.

We, here at Caring Dental offer a new system of taking X-rays, called digital radiography, which reduces radiation by as much as 90 percent. Using this system your x-rays are immediately available for viewing and safely stored and organized on a computer database.

This further reduces waiting time for processing and duplicating x-rays, and offers a new way to forward x-rays to specialists and insurance carriers.
